Our adventure kicked off in Essex, setting our sights on Folkestone. After a smooth channel crossing, we were off to Boulogne-sur-Mer, savoring every twist and turn of the breathtaking D940 coastal road truly one of the most memorable routes we’ve ridden. Following the picturesque D roads further, we arrived at Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, where a leisurely lunch by the River Somme made for a perfect break. Refreshed and recharged, we headed inland to Cambrai, our designated stop for the night. It was during dinner that the infamous bacon incident occurred, marking the hilarious start of what we now fondly call Bacon Gate, which eventually evolved into our quirky Bacon Tours.
Our journey home took us through Belgium. With the unusually hot June weather, leaving the hotel was quite the scene – a Le Mans-style start with six grown men sprinting across the parking lot in full leathers, eager to get moving and cool down.
As we navigated through France towards Bruges, we encountered an unexpected stop due to a puncture. It wasn’t until a quick check on Google Maps that we realized we had crossed into Belgium. After some fumbling with the repair kit, we managed to fix the puncture and continue our journey.
The delay meant our time in Bruges was shorter than we’d hoped. After a quick bite to eat and some ice cream, we were back on the road to Calais for our return crossing to the UK.
